I've always served our local community.
From my days as a member of the Australian Defence Force in the Navy and Air Force, through to becoming the Leading Firefighter at Queensland airports for nearly 15 years, I believe in creating a positive difference.
As our local Member of Parliament, I work hard to protects our interests - fighting for local jobs, frontline services, and cost of living relief - all of which is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s ongoing plan for Queensland and our shared future.
I'm committed to delivering the resources our community needs and ensuring that our community of Nicklin has a strong voice in Queensland’s Parliament. I'm helping to build a better future for the many, and not just a few - a future where no one is held back, and no one is left behind.
Biography
I spent my early life traveling with my family around Australia, as my father served in the army. My mother always imbued in me a sense of duty and honour, so after finishing school in Townsville, I joined the Navy in 1995 so that I too could serve my country. My Naval career saw me serve as a Bosun’s mate on HMAS Swan, Canberra and Ipswich, and then at an educational posting at HMAS Cerberus. In 2002 I transferred to the RAAF to train as an Aviation firefighter at Amberley and then served at RAAF Tindal. My time in the Services taught me the importance of comradeship, teamwork, improvisation and a love of, and duty to, country.
I joined Aviation Rescue Firefighting in 2004. I have served at Townsville Airport and Brisbane airport as leading firefighter and trainer /assessor. This role saw me elected as President of the UFU (aviation branch) from 2017-2020. In that role I sat before a Senate enquiry into firefighting services at Australian airports and negotiated the 2018-2021 Enterprise agreement. This period taught me tact, negotiation and the essential nature of strong unions in the workplace.
I have now settled down on the Sunshine Coast. Even though I have traveled Australia with the ADF, I think that the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland are the most beautiful places in the world, and I commit myself to serving the people of Nicklin with pride.
