SKELTON FIGHTS FOR SUNSHINE COAST SATELLITE HOSPITAL

12th August 2024

Sunshine Coast Labor MP Rob Skelton has launched a call for a new Satellite Hospital based on the Sunshine Coast.

Since 2020, the Queensland Labor Government has built seven new satellite hospitals across South East Queensland.

There have been over 130,000 Queenslanders who have accessed healthcare from these seven satellite hospitals.

Initial data from Queensland Health has demonstrated a 12% reduction in presentations at local hospitals, as a result of the local satellite hospital.

The services provided at these satellite hospitals include free walk-in, urgent care for illnesses and injuries not anticipated to be life-threatening in nature and outpatient services such as mental health services, kidney dialysis and other allied health services.

MP for Nicklin Rob Skelton said that “Labor’s Satellite Hospitals have been highly successful in reducing pressure on our local hospitals.

“They make an incredibly effective addition to the local healthcare network and provide Queenslanders with greater choice to access free walk-in urgent care.”

“Since being elected as the MP for Nicklin, I have been committed to delivering better healthcare on the Sunshine Coast - including delivering the Nambour Hospital Expansion which will deliver an extra 118 beds and an expanded ED.”

“Now, I want to see a Satellite Hospital on the Sunshine Coast so that our region can experience the same benefits as the rest of the South East.”

Skelton encouraged all Sunshine Coast residents to sign his petition and show their support for his proposal.
