SMART TICKETING SETS SAIL ON THE SUNSHINE COAST
17th September 2024
• Smart Ticketing is now live on Sunshine Coast Kinetic buses.
• Bus users on any urban Sunshine Coast service can now pay for their journey with their debit card, credit card, smartphone or smart watch.
• The trial follows the successful launch of Smart Ticketing on the Caboolture Bus Lines fleet late last month.
Sunshine Coast bus users have more ways to pay for their journey with Smart Ticketing now live on Kinetic services in the region.
The trial started this morning and enables customers to pay with their debit card, credit card, smartphone or smart watch when catching any Sunshine Coast Kinetic bus service.
Kinetic Sunshine Coast is Translink’s second bus service delivery partner in South East Queensland (SEQ) to trial the technology with customers, following the successful launch on the Caboolture Bus Lines (CBL) fleet late last month.
Smart Ticketing has proved a success on CBL buses with more than 700 trips already taken using the technology.
All 2600 buses in SEQ have a Smart Ticketing device installed and further trials on other SEQ bus operators are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
More than 18.2 million trips have now been taken using the technology on SEQ trains, Brisbane River ferries and G:link trams on the Gold Coast.
Customers who wish to continue paying for their journey on Sunshine Coast buses with their go card can do so.

“Smart Ticketing is about making it easier and more convenient for customers to be able to use public transport by providing more payment methods.
“In combination with the six-month 50 cent fares trial, which has now been underway for six weeks, it’s never been easier or more affordable to catch a bus on the Sunshine Coast.
“With Smart Ticketing already available on all SEQ train lines, you can now use the technology to pay for your trip if you are changing between buses and trains, which makes it easier to get around this great region.”
