NOOSA CHRISTIAN COLLEGE HOSPITALITY STUDENTS THRIVE IN NEW BUILDING

Senior students at Noosa Christian College have started the 2021 school year in style, enjoying a new $2.8 million technologies hub.  

 

Nicklin MP Rob Skelton joined the school community in celebrating the official opening of the state-of-the-art facility today.

 

“The Palaszczuk Government contributed $1.16 million towards this new building which is making a big difference to students,” Mr Skelton said.

 

“It’s been designed as a one-stop-shop for students to utilise a range of technologies such as design, food, textile and digital.

 

“Upstairs is home to a hospitality and commercial kitchen space with a servery and catering area, cold room, pantry, two classrooms and a covered walkway to the existing secondary building.

 

“The lower level includes flexible learning classrooms, staff offices and a meeting room, sports storage room, toilets and an outdoor area.

 

“There’s something for everyone in the new building and I’m confident these resources will support those students who are particularly interested in pursuing a career in hospitality after school.”

 

Mr Skelton said the Government had invested more than $3.7 million to Noosa Christian College over the last five years.

“Our Government is proud of the relationship we have with the non-state school sector, including Noosa Christian College,” he said.

“We’re proud to be investing $850 million this financial year to non-government schools across Queensland, supporting schools in their operations and for capital projects.”

 

Noosa Christian College Principal Jeanette Martin said students and staff are over the moon with the new facilities.

 

“Our new two-storey senior secondary building is linked to our existing secondary building and retains the beautiful green vista views,” Ms Martin said.

 

“The purpose of this building is to provide a learning environment where students can approach their ever-changing world with flexibility, curiosity, leadership, initiative, adaptability, productivity, as well as social and cultural awareness facilitated through learning opportunities both in and outdoors.”

 

Ms Martin said a highlight of these new facilities was the state-of-the-art kitchen.  

 

“Previously our home economics classes were conducted in demountable classrooms. The addition of a hospitality kitchen further connects students to real-life opportunities in catering and kitchen services vitally important to opening a gateway towards the hospitality industry on the Sunshine Coast,” she said.

 

“The new facilities are a wonderful asset in expanding our ability to deliver a 21st century education in a first-class education learning.”
