SUNSHINE COAST COMMUNITY SPORT FACILITIES TO BE MORE INCLUSIVE THROUGH $45 MILLION PROGRAM

21st March 2024

• 171 projects will receive funding through the Miles Government’s Minor Infrastructure and Inclusive Facilities Fund (MIIFF)
• MIIFF is designed to ensure local sport and active recreation facilities are safe, accessible, inclusive and more efficient
• In Sunshine Coast and Noosa Local Government areas, 13 projects have been approved a total of more than $3.7 million through the program.

Local sport and active recreation facilities will be made safe, accessible, inclusive and more efficient, through the Minor Infrastructure and Inclusive Facilities Fund (MIIFF).

New amenities at the Coolum Beach Junior Australian Football Club and Kawana Waters Surf Life Saving Club, new changerooms and amenities at Woombye Snakes Football Club, upgraded tennis courts at Kawana Tennis Club and Nambour & District Tennis Association, upgraded lighting to support Australian Football at Pomona, and developing a skate park at Maleny are just some of the projects set to receive a share of funding through the $45 million program.

Across Queensland, a total of 171 projects have been approved funding to enhance community level sport and active recreation participation.

The program supports two categories:
• Inclusive and Accessible – to support new and upgraded changerooms and amenities that meet universal design principles
• Safe, Quality and Efficient – to support new, upgraded and end-of-life field of play and ancillary facilities to meet activity requirements at a community level.

The $16.35 million Round 1 of the Minor Infrastructure Program (MIP) saw overwhelming demand and supported 91 projects.

Round 2 of MIP was brought forward as a result of this demand and combined with increased funding from the Inclusive Facilities Fund to target shovel-ready projects.

This increase includes $20 million as part of a $37 million Queensland Government investment in women and girls’ sport, announced in August 2023.
